Biography
Sean Murphy is a music composition student with a strong background in performance, education, and arts administration. He is a graduate of Kennesaw Mountain High School, where he completed an exceptionally rigorous academic program, earning a 4.4 GPA, completing 14 AP courses, and graduating with honors as a Magnet student. During his studies, he conducted an independent research project on music performance anxiety in middle school–age students, reflecting an early interest in the intersection of music, psychology, and education.
Beginning in 2025, Sean will pursue a Bachelor of Music in Composition at the Cleveland Institute of Music. His musical development has been supported by participation in programs such as the Brevard Summer Music Festival, where he worked as a student composer, and by involvement in regional composition competitions.
In addition to his compositional studies, Sean has extensive experience working in professional music environments. He has served in front-of-house and operations roles at the Brevard Music Center and with The Cleveland Orchestra, assisting patrons, coordinating concert logistics, and supporting high-attendance performances and special events. These roles required strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Sean is also an experienced music educator. He worked as a student teacher at Pine Mountain Middle School, where he collaborated with an experienced educator to develop lesson plans, experiment with teaching methods, and cultivate effective classroom management strategies. Alongside this, he maintained a private viola studio, teaching weekly lessons to multiple students with a process-focused and individualized approach.
With strengths in problem-solving, technology, teamwork, and time management, Sean brings a well-rounded skill set to both musical and professional settings. His work reflects a commitment to musical excellence, education, and collaborative artistry.
